LOWERTOWN
Lowertown is bounded roughly by Rideau Street, Sussex Drive, the Ottawa River, Rideau Canal, and Rideau River. Lowertown encompasses the Byward Market in its southwestern part. This neighbourhood is one of the most recognizable and historic areas in the city, and is considered to be the birthplace of Ottawa! It maintains its historic roots, with several heritage-designated buildings, and is rich in both socioeconomic and cultural diversity. Getting around here couldn’t be easier: along with bike paths and walkways, there are many OC Transpo bus routes that service the neighbourhood, and access to many more are available at Rideau Street station. As well, the 417, Transitway, and future LRT are all close by. There is no shortage of amenities in the area, with Rideau Street and the Rideau Centre a close walk away, with groceries, retail, bars, restaurants, and more. In addition, Parliament, museums, parks, and the Ottawa River are also nearby. Urban living at its best!
